Fad Diet- The Acid Alkaline Diet

The alkaline diet is a diet meant for athletes. But is not restricted for only athletes, wether you are a very athletic or a non- athletic person, it is important for you to recognize what food are beneficial for your body and which foods are not.

According to the AAA Diet, the alkaline diet is a diet that targets foods with enzymes that are immensely affected by the pH balance levels in our human blood and body tissue.  The AAA Diet website gives specific food combining charts that can help guide you to eat properly. The goals of this diet is to avoid eating food that turn into empty calories. For example, foods with a lot of acid usually turn into empty calories. The Alkaline Diet if followed correctly, will supply the body with enough nutrients including vitamins and minerals.


On AAA Diet’s website it states that the alkaline diet targets alkaline foods like whole fruits, vegetables and some whole grain products that are low in calories. A proper and healthy alkaline diet will consist of a equal balance of foods that are acidifying and alkalizing. Here is a list of foods that are considered alkaline diet friendly.


Vegetables: beets, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, cucumber, kale, lettuce, onions, peas, peppers, spinach

Fruits: apple, banana, berries, cantaloup, grapes, melon, lemon, orange, peach, pear, watermelon

Protein: almonds, chestnuts, tofu

Spices: cinnamon, curry, ginger, mustard, sea salt



I think I personally would be able to follow this diet because I enjoy most of the foods that are listed above and eat them often.  On the AAA Diet website, they give you specific instructions to not eat certain alkaline foods together. Also on the website they have many different recipes and proper food- combining principles. The alkaline diet is not a very expensive and invasive diet. You can buy all the food products at your local grocery store and are not expensive foods.

I discovered that according to Live Energized, the alkaline diet can actually cause you to put on weight rather than loose weight at first. The body adapts to taking in larger amounts of acidity by gaining weight to adjust to this new diet. However, some people actually do loose weight on this diet plan. In order to loose weight with the alkaline diet, you must also keep hydrated and exercise regularly. The main focus of this diet is to balance out the pH levels and to re-energize your body.
